2005 CMB
Grand Prix
Charleston Model
Boaters Grand Prix
March 19 & 20 2005
A big Thank You goes out to the (Charleston Model Boaters headed up by James
(Gabe) Clegg President) for hosting the 2005 CMB Grand Prix Race. John
Knight did a fine job CD'ing the race. He didn't run any boats and spent all
weekend calling the race. Remember putting together any race is a club
effort no one person can do it all. Unfortunately I was not able to attend
due to my work schedule. Looks like I missed one heck of a RACE!!
With over seventy boats spread out over eleven different classes is a
formula for an exhilarating race. I want to start of by recognizing the
Women Boaters, Jan Bearden and Kathy Huff. These ladies are out there mixing
it up with the veteran drivers and doing well. Let's congratulate Jan for
finishing third in B Tunnel moving her into second place on the season and
also third in Cracker Box putting her third in the season standings. Jan is
also leading Sport B tunnel in the season series. Kathy Huff finished third
in LSG-23-30 Mono placing her third in the season standings. I challenge
these ladies to encourage more women boaters to start racing. Maybe we could
have a special class for women boaters who knows?
Junior boater Matthew Proepper piloted his LSG 23-30 Cat to a 2nd place
finish to move himself into first place on the season. He also sits in 2nd
place in Offshore. He's going to be tough to beat in the remaining races.
Top honors, for the most points earned (1900) during the 2005 CMB Grand Prix
Race goes out to David Ashmore in D-Tunnel. David is in control of both D
and Open tunnel in the GP series standings and it looks like he is ready for
the Atlanta Model Boaters Spring Nationals April 23-24.
Rookie racer Romano "Bo" Scott became a "Water Baby" in his first race by
taking 1st place in Open LSG Hydro and 2nd Place in LSG 23-30 Mono. Bo's
performance should be good incentive for our district boaters who think
they're not good enough to race.
Trying something new in District 13 for 2005 I asked to have race entrants
provide information on what Hull, Motor, Pipe, Radio, Prop etc. they use.
This way, we can give recognition to the many builders and suppliers that
provide us with there products. It's up to you the boaters to turn in this
information.
Let's hope the weather at the Spring Nats is good as we had here. See you in
Atlanta!
