December 2006 Directors Report 2006 was another good year in D13. We had a small increase in membership and overall attendance at the races was up. The downside was we had three races canceled due to lack of entries. The eleven weekend races we scheduled in addition to two clubs bringing back the monthly club races may be more boating than can be supported in this area at this time. We also had two record trials so there was no shortage of activity this year! The Atlanta Model Boaters and Charleston Model Boaters both held club racing this year and for the first time in years boaters could race without having to spend an entire weekend. The AMB ran four club races, in addition to the FIVE district events that were held on their lake this year. The CMB also held four club races and hosted two district events. The CMB enjoyed the largest growth in our district jumping up to 19 members and attracting several new boaters. The Ogeechee RC Modelers and SOWEGA also held district events and are working hard to make ’07 a success. We feel the club races are very important if we are to attract new boaters and both AMB & CMB will be having their club series again in ’07. The two district series we run here in 13 both had a successful season. We had members from every IMPBA district and even overseas compete here this year. The Grand Prix Series was very competitive and attendance held steady averaging 57 boats a race with the gas classes extremely competitive. The series did see a drop off in the tunnel classes due to the fact that the tunnels are offered in both of our series (eight races) and the tunnel racers were more active in the High Point series this year.Grand Prix Final Standings
The High Point series had a solid rise in attendance overall with 3 of the 5 races drawing over 90 boats. The races were very competitive but with few boaters actually running the series we wound up with different racers winning at each race which created log jams in the standings and many of the 21 classes were decided at the final race. The series started with the 2 nd Annual OB Tunnel Championships in Walterboro, SC. The race drew 90 boats from all over and the racing season started in high gear. Our second race was the much-hyped Spring Nationals in Atlanta, which attracted close to 300 boats and was sold out in Nov of ’05! The series moved on to the Spring Challenge in Bloomingdale, GA which was the smallest race of the series when strangely no gas boats attended. The GA Championships in Atlanta drew over 70 boats and saw the gas classes rebound strong but suffered a very light turnout in the tunnel classes. The series finale was in Walterboro, SC with the SC Championships. All classes were well represented to finish the season with over 90 boats competing and for the first time in D13 Gas, Nitro and Fast Electric competed at the same race!High Point Final Standings
( Crackerbox, LSG Rigger & Sport 40 ran less than 3 races and did not qualify as trophy classes) 2007 is set to be another very active year with ten district races scheduled, two record trials and the two club series scheduled. With the addition of FE, we now run all three formulas in our district. We plan to offer FE as a class in a couple district level races next year and I’m sure they’ll be allowed to race in the club series. If anyone hears “No one runs that!” come to D13, we run it somewhere! We will be changing the Highpoint trophy classes in ’07 based on ’06 participation and sponsorship. Our individual races will offer any and all classes that are supported in addition to the HP classes and we are not cutting any classes out of our individual races.
