March 2006 Directors Report
The D13 2006 racing season kicks off with the Southern Challenge in Sycamore, GA on Feb 18 & 19. We expect a good number of racers to get out and knock the winter rust off and score some early season high points before D13’s premier event, the Spring Nationals on April 22 &23. The Spring Nats were even harder to get into this year filling up in an unprecedented 18 days after the entry form was released! Drivers will be competing in twenty very competitive classes at this year’s event. The Twin Hydro Shootout attracted twenty-four drivers who will be going head-to-head for bragging rights this year. The “Winner Take All” final will match the top six drivers after four rounds of racing. Last year’s final heat can be viewed on the web at RC Flix. Fast Electric guys mark your calendar, the Valdosta Model Boat Club will host the FE II Speed Trial on March 3-5 in Valdosta, GA. Details are on their website. The Tunnel Championships will be held on March 25 & 26 in Walterboro, SC and Highpoints will be awarded to the classes that are eligible. This will give the tunnel racers one throw out race in the Highpoint Series. The Charleston Model Boaters will host this event again and top drivers are already entering this event. Racers are expected from as far away as Minnesota and even the Netherlands! The prize list includes two top of the line tunnel hulls and this year’s race should be bigger and better than last year! It’s worth attending even as a spectator! The Charleston Model Boaters will be having monthly club races at their lake in Walterboro, SC this year. These races will be one day (Sunday) races designed to provide new boaters an opportunity to get into racing without jumping into a two day weekend race and also provide veteran racers an opportunity to do some race testing and practice for the district events. The lake is located just off I95 at exit 62. Check theirwebsite for dates and if you’re in the area stop by! All five races in the District 13 Highpoint Series this year will count towards the season Championship. With 21 classes offered there is something for everyone. Mod-VP class will be offered for the first time with Mark Poole bringing six ready to race boats to each HP event. Drivers will be able to sign up for a chance to drive one of these boats at each race. This year also marks the return of a race on Columbus Day weekend in October that will be hosted by the Charleston Model Boaters. Racers from other districts are invited to compete in the Highpoint series races and are eligible to take home the season trophies. We hope you’ll take the time and travel to D13 to attend one of our races this season. Bobby Halliday District Director
